About Us
Our Story
PFLAG Hinsdale was formed June 29, 1992. We have been meeting at the Unitarian Church of Hinsdale on the first Sunday of every month since our inception. PFLAG Hinsdale is, and has always been, committed to providing compassion, support, educational programs, and advocacy for equal rights. We are built on trust, respect and acceptance of all. We are not counselors but are here to support one another and offer an opportunity to help create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.
A few of our outreach activities include attending local equality organization events, tabling at pride events, locally and state-wide, and participating in our annual tree decorating event at Brookfield Zoo. Our Unconditional Love event held every Mother’s Day at Sidetrack in Chicago, is where we really see the impact we make. It is very touching to meet members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Many people tell us that they wish they had parents like us who are so accepting, loving, and caring.
We know that we make a difference in people’s lives, and we strive to continue to reach out and embrace as many members of the LGBTQIA+ community as we can. We want everyone to know that PFLAG Hinsdale leads with love.
PFLAG
PFLAG is an organization of LGBTQ+ people, parents, families, and allies who work together to create an equitable and inclusive world. We are hundreds of thousands of people and hundreds of chapters from coast to coast who are leading with love to support families, educate allies, and advocate for just, equitable, and inclusive legislation and policies. Since our founding in 1973, PFLAG works every day to ensure LGBTQ+ people everywhere are safe, celebrated, empowered and loved.
Offer Education – Each month we have a speaker with topics relevant to our mission of educating and supporting the LGBTQ+ community and share stories of our journey and progress.
Advocate – PFLAG strives to partner with other local and National organizations to educate key decision-makers about the issues that affect our loved ones and families, and to teach others how to use their voices to amplify our efforts toward a more equitable, and just world for the LGBTQ+ community.
Community Outreach
PFLAG Hinsdale reaches out to organizations of all kinds – schools, churches, libraries, social services, health and wellness organizations, Youth Outlook, Rainbow Sprouts – to help people understand the issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.
PFLAG Hinsdale relies upon like organizations to help us keep abreast of the latest information available for LGBTQ+ issues.
